Things got exciting in Rheinböllen on Thursday: At this year’s WorldSkills Germany RegioCup, a total of twelve aspiring young professionals showcased their skills in the disciplines of Mechatronics and Industrial Mechanics. The participants, representing various companies and training firms, competed against one another and tackled challenging tasks.
The RegioCup serves as an important stepping stone into the world of vocational skills competitions. It gives participants the opportunity to demonstrate their technical knowledge, accuracy, and ability to perform under pressure. At the same time, the competition opens the door to potential participation in the German National Skills Championships organized by WorldSkills Germany.
A Personal Challenge Beyond Winning
For many participants, the focus wasn’t just on winning, but above all on personal growth. Louis Hoffmann, who competed in the Mechatronics skill category, explained his motivation: “I’m interested in participating in the German National Championship. The RegioCup is a first step for me to assess my own abilities.” What he enjoys most is the combination of technology and precision: “I particularly enjoy working with LOGO! programming and wiring tasks—they’re simply fun.”
Linus Oberst, who competed in Industrial Mechanics, also viewed the competition as a valuable experience: “The opportunity to compete with other apprentices is what motivates me the most.” Before the competition, he was especially looking forward to testing himself under pressure: “I hope to achieve the best result possible and gain experience working under pressure.”
Intensive Preparation for Competition Day
Strong performances require thorough preparation. In the weeks leading up to the event, participants trained extensively on typical competition tasks and worked closely with their instructors and trainers.
Louis Hoffmann not only practiced at the company’s training stations but also spent time programming independently on his laptop. Linus Oberst prepared for potential tasks together with his trainers and gained additional hands-on experience working with machinery.
Strong Performances in Mechatronics and Industrial Mechanics
In the Mechatronics competition, participants were challenged in areas such as precise wiring, programming, and systematic troubleshooting. Competitors in Industrial Mechanics demonstrated their expertise in pneumatics, assembly work, and technical problem-solving.
At the end of the competition day, the top-performing young professionals were recognized for their achievements.

Supporting the Skilled Workforce of Tomorrow
Year after year, the RegioCup highlights the tremendous potential of young technical talent. In addition to technical expertise, participants must demonstrate concentration, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork—skills that are essential for success in their future careers.
As Linus Oberst summarized: “It’s a unique experience. You get the chance to compete with others and showcase your own skills.”
